Biography

Baikong Mamid is a tutor at the School of Public Health in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and a practicum coordinator of the School’s Master of Public Health Programme. She is a communications professional with 16 years of work experience in the field of emergency medical and humanitarian service. Her interests are health behaviour and communication, risk communications, health policy and politics, access to medicines and intellectual property rights, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and neglected tropical diseases.

Before joining the School of Public Health, she served as a guest speaker on “Social Marketing in Public Health” from 2018 to 2021 at the MPH’s health behaviour and communication course. Mrs Mamid also held several positions in international non-government organisations, e.g. she served as a member of the leadership team of Médecins Sans Frontières Hong Kong as Director of Communications. She was actively involved in the community programme of MSF HK and led a team to provide timely and useful health information and education to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 and with utmost urgency during the 5th wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong.

Over the years, she has worked in South Sudan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Swaziland, South Africa, Thailand, and the Philippines and has immersed herself in various health challenges of the population in middle- and low-income countries. Mrs Mamid began her career at Oxfam Great Britain, after she obtained her teaching degree at Notre Dame University (the Philippines).
