個人簡介

田林瑋教授從事環境流行病學研究,尤其專注於空氣污染與健康的關係。他曾在女性肺癌死亡率居中國首位的宣威市,就空內空氣污染和肺癌進行現場環境研究及實驗室研究工作。他針對數百個農村的用煤模式和肺癌死亡率進行空間分析後, 提出了以下假設:煤煙中的結晶二氧化硅(石英)是導致肺癌在宣威農村蔓延的重要風險因素 。最近,他致力於量化石英及其他存於煤煙的致癌物質,以及探討這些物質與癌症有否劑量反應關係 。如證實這種關係的確存在,他會提出禁止在中國的住宅區使用某些有毒煤炭。此外,他將鑑定和分離存於煤煙的致癌物質,推薦用作實驗室致癌機理研究的標準物質之一 。

香港城市發展急速,環境特徵獨特,是另一個空氣污染和健康關係的研究現場。香港人口和交通密度甚高,高廈林立,而且環境測量和醫療衛生相關數據豐富,又有各種空氣污染控制措拖,值得環境流行病學深入研究。田教授已利用覆蓋全港的公開數據進行探索性分析,並就本港的污染物和污染源可引致的健康危害提出假設。在更多的個人暴露和生物標記物數據的基礎上,他將會展開分析性研究, 進一步驗證這些假設,推斷可能的因果關係,並建議以健康風險為指向的空氣質量控制政策。
