On July 31, 2023, the School of Public Health (SPH) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) hosted a lecture on “Global trends in primary health care reform: implications for HK” by Professor Michael Kidd, Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems of the University of Oxford, on HKU medical campus. The lecture was joined by over 150 local and international healthcare practitioners, scholars, researchers and students in-person and virtually.

In his lecture, Professor Kidd shared various global experiences to provide insights towards building a resilient primary care system. He advised policymakers and healthcare practitioners to reflect from the local and international experience of COVID-19 and make recommendations on how their healthcare system can be reformed. 

The lecture was followed by a commentator session by Professor Sophia Chan, Professor of School of Nursing, Director of HKU Primary Health Care Academy, and Senior Advisor of President’s Office, HKU, as well as Dr William Wong, Clinical Associate Professor, Chief of Research, and Department Chairperson of Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, HKU. The event was wrapped up by a Q&A session facilitated by Professor David Bishai, Director and Clinical Professor of HKU SPH.
