Admission

All secondary students, regardless of streams of study, are welcome to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Global Health and Development [BASc(GHD)] programme. BASc(GHD) will begin its initial intake in the 2019/20 academic year, with 15-25 intake places1.

JUPAS (JUPAS Code: JS6250)

HKDSE students should apply through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). In addition to satisfying the basic University Entrance Requirements, candidates should also fulfill the following BASc(GHD)-specific entry requirements:

Subject Level Requirements
English2 5
Chinese 3
Mathematics 2
Liberal Studies 2
Any 2 Electives 3

All subjects are equally weighted. Preference will be given to candidates who put BASc(GHD) in Band A. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews in June/July.

The University is changing the JUPAS scoring system by giving bonus points to applicants with high levels of achievement in subjects in their HKDSE. The dedication and diligence of students in achieving Level 5, 5* or 5** in the HKDSE subjects are attributes that HKU wishes to reward appropriately.

Specifically, HKU's new JUPAS admissions system will give bonus points on top of the present scores attached to each Level as follows:

  • 0.5 bonus points to any Level 5 subject;
  • 1 bonus point to any subject with Level 5*; and
  • 1.5 bonus points to any subject with Level 5**.

These will be used in calculating a new JUPAS score for applicants to HKU.

This is, in effect, a new scoring system for JUPAS, as follows:

HKDSE Level 1 2 3 4 5 5* 5**
Level conversion to scores under the existing system 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Level conversion to scores under the New Bonus Points system 1 2 3 4 5.5 7 8.5

Non-JUPAS
Candidates applying for admission on the strengths of other qualifications should submit their applications through HKU’s International Admissions Scheme / Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme. Applicants are required to satisfy the University Entrance Requirements for Non-JUPAS students. Preference will be given to candidates who list BASc(GHD) programme as their first choice. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews between December and February.

1 As the 2019/20 Academic Year is the start of the 2019-2022 triennium for which UGC-funded programmes are still subject to the Government's and the Legislative Council's approval, the number of student intake places is indicative only and subject to change or confirmation at a later date.

2 Candidates with level 4 in English Language and good results in other HKDSE subjects will be exceptionally considered on a case-by-case basis.
