Applying Sports Psychology in Correctional Services

Sports psychology not only advances the performance of athletes on sports field, but also plays a crucial role to those placed in custodial correctional settings.

Dr Derwin Chan, Assistant Professor of the School of Public Health, The University of Hong Kong, delivered a lecture entitled “Psychology of Combat” to over 30 correctional officers from the tactical unit of Hong Kong Correctional Services Department. The role of psychology in supporting correctional officers involved in tactical tasks, mental training routes and application towards the enhancement of performance were outlined in the lecture.
