The School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong will be hosting a lecture entitled “Global trends in primary health care reform: implications for HK” by Professor Michael Kidd AO, Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems of the University of Oxford, on 31 July. Speaker Bio
Professor Michael Kidd AO is Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and Foundation Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales in Australia. He served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Australia throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with responsibility for the development and implementation of the national primary care response to COVID-19. He is a past president of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), a past president of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a former Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Foundation Director of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre on Family Medicine and Primary Care.

 

About the seminar
Strong primary care is the basis of strong, sustainable, and equitable healthcare systems in countries all around the world. This presentation will focus on what issues need to be addressed when strengthening primary care to be ready to meet the current and future health care needs of the population. Issues such as changing patterns of disease, enhanced focus on prevention and health promotion, changing community expectations, continuing evolution of digital health opportunities, workforce challenges, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, will all be examined.
