Professor Danijela Gasevic, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Practice jointly appointed by the School of Public Health (host department) and the Bau Institute of Medical & Health Sciences Education at the LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Her research focuses on the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases, with particular interests in healthy ageing and the behavioural, social, and environmental determinants of health. She also explores the use of digital technologies to promote healthy behaviours and developed and leads the globally recognised Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Sit Less, Get Active, which has enrolled more than 120,000 learners worldwide since its launch in 2016.

Prior to joining HKU, Professor Gasevic held several academic leadership roles at Monash University in Australia, including Head of Postgraduate Programs and Head of Professional Education Programs in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She led the Behavioural and Social Epidemiology (BASEpi) Research Group and has extensive experience in research training, curriculum development, and innovative approaches to health professions education. Her educational research focuses on assessment, feedback, learning analytics, and the application of artificial intelligence in health professions education. Her contributions to education have been recognised through numerous awards, including the School Teaching Excellence Award and the Monash Graduate Association Lecturer of the Year Award, making her the first academic from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine to receive this university-wide honour.

Professor Gasevic received her medical degree from the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Serbia, and obtained her PhD from Simon Fraser University, Canada. She has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and has been recognised among the world's top 2% most-cited scientists in the Stanford University and Elsevier rankings. In 2025, she received the Higher Degree by Research Supervision Excellence Award and the Head of School Excellence Award at Monash University in recognition of her outstanding leadership in education, contributions to public health research, and exceptional commitment to student mentorship and research supervision. Professor Gasevic is an Honorary Lecturer at the Centre for Global Health, Usher Institute, The University of Edinburgh, UK and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. From 2018 to 2026, she served on the Human Research Ethics Committee at Alfred Health, Melbourne, Australia.
