Dr Hansika Hanthanapitiya is a Primary Care Physician and a Public Health Professional from Sri Lanka with over four years of international experience in the field. She has a strong professional background in delivering primary health care to minorities and low-income populations, particularly in rural settings. She is also a trained public health practitioner with working experience in community health, maternal and child health and public health administration.

Dr Hanthanapitiya earned her MBBS degree from Tianjin Medical University, China, where she received Honorary Credentials in the final year. Additionally, she was awarded the Chan Tung and Friends Global Community Health for All Scholarship for her academic excellence and commitment to community service by the School of Public Health, The University of Hong Kong. She graduated with Distinction from the School’s Master of Public Health programme in 2024.

Prior to joining the School of Public Health, Dr Hanthanapitiya has served in several rural and semi-urban government hospitals in Sri Lanka, delivering essential healthcare to vulnerable populations.

Dr Hanthanapitiya is also an awarded advocate for her work in health equity, women’s health, rural health and sexual and reproductive health rights of marginalised communities across Asia. Her research interests revolve around health equity and women’s health in rural settings of low and middle-income countries.
