Dr Kenrie Hui received her Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology in The University of Hong Kong, and her postdoctoral training at Centre of Influenza Research, School of Public Health, The University of Hong Kong.

Since her Ph.D. study, she works on the innate immunity during influenza A (H5N1) infection, signalling pathways of cytokine induction including the role of innate sensing receptors in cytokine induction and amplification of cytokine production.

Her research interests focus on understanding the pathogenesis of emerging respiratory viruses including highly pathogenic influenza A viruses, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, exploring cellular targets as novel therapeutic options for severe influenza diseases and COVID-19 diseases, and examining the tropism and immune responses of these emerging respiratory viruses in ex vivo cultures and primary cell models derived from human respiratory tract.

Dr Hui was awarded Croucher Foundation Research Studentships and Butterfield-Croucher Studentship during her Ph.D. study. She received the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Travel Grant and Promising Investigator Scholarship in the Options for the Control of Influenza VII in 2010 and Keystone Symposia Scholarship and Travel Award in 2011. She was awarded the Faculty Outstanding Research Output Award in 2019.
