Abstract:
Developments in genomic technology these past 20 years have led to the increasing ability to diagnose idiopathic learning disability. Within constrained financial resources, it is important to not only consider the clinical effectiveness of an intervention but to also investigate and base decisions on the evidence of cost-effectiveness. In this presentation, I will introduce the field of health economics and economic evaluation, present a within-trial study investigating the cost-effectiveness of using array-CGH to diagnose idiopathic learning disability and discuss economic evaluation in relation to the field of public health genomics.
