Roasted Pig Cutting Ceremony in Patrick Manson Building

To celebrate the inauguration of our new offices in Patrick Manson Building (PMB), the School hosted a Roasted Pig Cutting Ceremony today.

Our School Director, Professor JSM Peiris, highlighted in his opening address the historic significance of the building, which is named after Sir Patrick Manson, one of the founders and first Dean of the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, the forerunner of the Faculty of Medicine and the University. Sir Patrick was an iconic figure who embodied everything we aspire to be as public health practitioners and the symbolism in our relocation to this building runs deep. 'Life has come full circle for us, as the South Wing in this building has been the home of our erstwhile Department of Community Medicine some twenty years ago', said Professor Peiris. In truth, this building has always resounded to our footsteps and Sir Patrick's quest for excellence in public health medicine reverberates powerfully in the School to this date.

To commemorate this auspicious occasion, a short video of the School's development and its most important asset, its people, was played in the ceremony. The video is a chronicle of the School's development in images and sound, featuring departmental photos taken from various eras under the helm of successive heads.

Highlights of the ceremony are as below. Thank you all for coming and to many more scientific discoveries and academic successes ahead!
