Dr Michael Ni, Clinical Associate Professor of our School, is the proud recipient of the University’s Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2020-21. The award is dedicated to young researchers below the age of 40 to recognize their outstanding research accomplishments.

As the School’s first and only psychiatric epidemiologist, Dr Ni has pioneered and led the research programme in population mental health since its conception, and soon placed HKU as a “power-house” in the field of social epidemiology. With many of his publications in leading international journals and an extremely successful profile in obtaining research grants, Dr Ni has achieved international recognition as one of the top scholars among a new generation researchers of his field, and harvested critical acclaim including the prestigious Michele Tansella Award and the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation Award for Young Investigator. His work has attained substantial translational impact, directly guiding policy making at the highest levels of Government and improving the well-being of people and communities.
