Epidemiology and Biostatistics EB

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EB) concentration aims to provide comprehensive training in the areas of epidemiology and statistics that are important to epidemiologists, medical statisticians, health data analysts, social science researchers, and other professionals involved in collection, management, analysis and interpretation of medical and health research data.

On completion of the programme students will be able to

  • Use situational analysis, study design, data management and analysis, data interpretation, study implementation, health information, vital statistics for epidmiological and clinical problem solving.
  • Apply basic research skills to specific public health problems,
  • Define problems, construct, articulate and test hypotheses, make causal inferences and draw conclusions
  • Analyse and interpret epidemiological data to medical and health problems
  • Apply appropriate statistical methods to medical and health data
  • Identify, collect, retrieve, and critically appraise the published medical and epidemiological literature  and other appropriate sources of information
  • Attribute meaning to information and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, considering the current ethical, political, scientific, socio-cultural and economic contexts
