Jockey Club DATAZONE Primary Healthcare Project
The School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong (HKU SPH) commenced Jockey Club DATAZONE Primary Healthcare Project (The Project) on 1 May 2024, which aims to align with the Government’s healthcare reform initiatives by enhancing district well-being through health profiling, innovative and evidence-based primary healthcare service models, and capacity building of healthcare professionals.
The Project consists of two major components:
1. District Health Profiling (DHP)
The study starts in May 2025, which aims to obtain comprehensive district health profiles to understand the mental, physical, and social health of adults as well as its determinants. This could be beneficial for informing the design of interventions in primary healthcare and the promotion of health and social policies to enhance overall wellbeing of adults in Hong Kong.
The study includes household visits within Southern, Wong Tai Sin, and Sai Kung districts to all household members aged 18 and above. HKUSPH has engaged the MOV Data Collection Centre Limited (米奧特資料搜集中心) to conduct in-person survey interviews starting from January 2025. Invitations will be sent to all households, which are randomly selected using a scientific method. MOV will conduct home visits for further engagement between 10am and 10 pm from Monday to Sunday.
In addition to the interviews, participants will be invited to participate in another part of the study, which includes utilising a smartphone app for data collection over a period of one year.

2. Innovative Intervention Models in Primary Healthcare
a. Women’s Health (WH)
This study is a randomised controlled trial to assess the development and implementation of a nurse-led, risk–based intervention for women aged 45–64 in the Southern, Wong Tai Sin, and Sai Kung districts for an all-round mid-life health pre-screening. Participants are screened for risks in 6 health conditions namely menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, hypertension, breast cancer risk, cervical cancer risk, and colorectal cancer risk using pre-screening tool developed based on Primary Healthcare Commission Life Course Preventive Care – Women. Based on the risk assessment and risk stratification results, we test the effectiveness of a nurse-led condition-specific interventions, including active referral to formal screening and personalised risk-based health advice, to facilitate participants self-monitoring and self-management of their health.
b. Weight Management (WM)
This study is a randomised controlled trial to assess the development and implementation of a nurse-led, risk-based intervention for adults with overweight or obesity in the Southern, Wong Tai Sin, and Sai Kung districts and reduce weight through primary prevention. Through mHealth Ecological Momentary Assessment, dietary and physical activity data were continuously collected from the participants. Based on the baseline assessment and these data, nurses formulate personalised healthy diet and physical activity plans to reduce weight, and motivated them to adopt the plans by applying behavioural modifications. At the same time, participants with preclinical obesity are referred to dietitians and fitness trainers for further guidance. This study will foster sustainable weight control and overall health improvement.
