Building Healthy Construction Workers

Efforts have been made over the years in reducing the number and rate of injuries to construction workers. Despite this, construction remains a high-risk industry and accounts for a high percentage of fatal and major injuries. What is less recognised is that construction workers have a high risk of developing occupational diseases.

A programme entitled “MTRC Worker Health and Wellbeing Month 2014”, as jointly organised by The School of Public Health, the MTR Corporation (MTRC), and QBE Hongkong & Shanghai Insurance Limited, has been carried out in May 2014. Health screening services were provided at various MTRC construction worksites and preventive measures were advised to improve health awareness of construction workers.
