On March 20, The School of Public Health and School of Nursing, together with Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, co-ordinated the “Smoke-free Hong Kong Green Ribbon Action” and held a rally at the Hong Kong Central Government Offices to call for support from the general public for the 41.5% tobacco tax raise. It was attended by 250 people, including Professor SP Lee, Dean, and Professors TH Lam and SSC Chan, and many medical, nursing and postgraduate students and staff. The attendees tied a green ribbon onto the “Smoke-free Tree” to show their wills of establishing a smoke-free Hong Kong. The event was widely reported in the mass media.
