NAM-HKU Fellow Seminar

Dr Chinmoy Sarkar, the inaugural NAM-HKU Fellow in Global Health Leadership, will deliver his presentation entitled, “Towards Longevity-Ready Cities: Built and Social Environmental Determinants of Healthy Longevity” in February, with details as follows:

Co-hosted by the U.S. National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and the School of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the seminar will feature Dr Sarkar’s project conducted as a part of his fellowship. Dr Sarkar will talk about the built and social environmental determinants of healthy longevity, including existing scientific evidence and future directions towards achieving the goal of longevity-ready cities. A panel discussion and a Q&A session with the audience will follow. 

About Dr Chinmoy Sarkar
Dr. Chinmoy Sarkar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Urban Planning & Design, Faculty of Architecture, and co-leads the Healthy High Density Cities Lab, HKUrbanLab at HKU. He is also an Honorary Member at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford. His research experience and interests lie in the interdisciplinary field of Healthy Places and Cities, specifically, social and environmental epidemiology of chronic and infectious diseases (including biomarker-environment, brain-environment and gene-environment studies); determinants of neurodegenerative (dementia, Alzheimer's) diseases and mental health disorders; healthy longevity; science (including planning and design) of healthy cities; health-specific environmental exposure modelling, epidemiological designs and statistical programming. His work has leveraged the power of large cohorts (UK Biobank, Hong Kong FAMILY cohort and others), models, and algorithms towards a more nuanced and evidence-based approach to health city science.
