The World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948. Each year, a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.

The theme for 2014 is vector-borne diseases, which account for 17% of the estimated global burden of all infectious diseases.

This year's message, “Small Bite, Big Threat”, highlights actions we can all take to protect ourselves from the serious diseases that mosquitoes, flies, ticks and bugs can cause.
